2008 Gets CRUEL
CRUEL is a film that pays homage to “slasher films" and could also be considered a new addition to the neo-grindhouse genre. On the outset, it's just like most every slasher film, but, says writer/director Duane P. Craig, “I promise that the way it's done is going to be quite original for today's generation. It's a silent-horror-film until the last 5-6 minutes...but there's a very good reason why. There's a nice twist to it all. I don't want to spill any prime details, but I will say that horror fans will be happy. Cruel boasts an axe murderer who is incredibly angry yet focused and methodical. Every death scene is being tended to as if it's an application into slasher hall-of-fame." This film features the best and the brightest of the upcoming Memphis film scene, and the FX are being handled by the film's writer/director Duane P. Craig. The highly important film score is being written by C.M. Byerly, a brilliant up-and-comer in the Memphis film scene. Craig’s vision for the film is, “A gritty film-look...it's a must for me,” says Craig, “It wouldn't be creepy unless it looked that way, and trust me; this script has some disturbing things in it.” Cruel starts production in the Memphis area this fall and is being produced by Knight Entertainment and Smokin’ Gnome Productions. Knight Entertainment recently collaborated with Smokin’ Gnome on the DVD release of The Broke Director a short film compilation of works by Timm Scalita. Knight Entertainment also published the book HOLD another well written work by Duane P. Craig.
